WONDER-ful Wednesday Activity:
Book: The Good for Nothing Tree by Amy-Jill Levine. We’ll wonder over this version of the popular parable, and the insistence of the children that if we wait and give things time, space, and empathy, greatness grows, even when not everyone understands.
Activity: Using a clip from Wicked where Elphaba ensures Galinda gets into Madame Marble’s sorcery class & the story of Luke 4:14-30, we’ll discuss being misunderstood, just like Jesus was when he went back to Nazareth. What does it feel like to not be heard? How can we better see and hear the creatures around us? We will then make rainbow crayons in Easter shape silicone molds using broken, small, “misunderstood” crayon pieces, crayons so many would be willing to throw away, but we know that if we stop, consider, and care we’ll discover their immense potential for transformation. Our new crayons will go inside eggs for the toddlers at the FUMC Egg Hunt on April 13th.
