Transgender Day of Remembrance

Event Details

Join us for an evening of reflection, remembrance, and resilience as we gather for Transgender Day of Remembrance. Each year on this day, we pause to honor the memory of transgender and gender-diverse individuals whose lives were taken by acts of violence and hatred. Together, we will hold sacred space to grieve, to bear witness, and to renew our collective commitment to building a world rooted in love and justice.
The service will feature transgender activist and Two-Spirit Eli Rigatuso, poet and author Ariel O’Donnell, and activist and professor Ferial Pearson, who will share stories, poetry, and words of hope. The River City Mixed Chorus will lift their voices to guide us “into the light,” reminding us that love and remembrance have the power to heal and transform.
Following the service, we invite you to stay for a reception where we can continue to connect in community, share conversation, and honor one another’s presence. Mom hugs will be available for those who may need them.
This event is sponsored by First United Methodist Church, Second Unitarian Church, and River City Gender Alliance, as well as being supported by River City Mixed Chorus. All are welcome and loved.
