Flood Damage Relief – How can we help our Nebraska neighbors?
The recent flooding has caused significant damage to homes, farms, and businesses in the region. Many families have been displaced. As a faith community of action, must provide a helping hand to those in need.
First, we can provide needed supplies to first responders for distribution to individuals directly impacted by the flooding. FUMC members and friends can bring to church food items such as bottled water, snacks, sport drinks, etc., or household items such as gloves, bleach, disinfectant wipes, dust masks, etc., or tools like shovels and hammers. Items can be left in the southeast corner of the Commons. Volunteer in Mission (VIM) members will ensure these donated items get to first responders ASAP. Donations should be brought to church ASAP but no later than March 31st.
As flood waters recede and disaster relief organizations map out support needs in the region, we, FUMC intend to assemble VIM adult and youth work teams to help with clean-up. The needs will be great and the duration for clean-up will be lengthy.
Further information on FUMC’s onsite response to this disaster will be forthcoming as soon as disaster response coordinators are in place and ready for volunteers. We will work under the leadership of the Great Plains Conference and local United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Teams, and await further instruction on the best course of action to help those in need.
