- Adult Christian Education Council -- The council
oversees the church's adult education activities, including Sunday school
classes, First Forum programs, Lectionary Bible study groups and a variety of
special-subject classes that are conducted periodically usually corresponding
with the guest speaker for the annual Horizons of Faith presentation.

- Board of Trustees -- The Board of Trustees is the
steward of FUMC-Omaha's building, contents, land and the foundation endowment.
It makes major decisions about safeguarding, maintaining and improving the
church property, what projects to undertake and how much to spend, with funds
coming from trust funds in the endowment. The board chooses its own
chair at the first meeting of the year.

- Building & Grounds Committee -- The committee has
responsibility for maintenance of the church building and grounds. It
makes many "nuts and bolts" decisions on what needs to be done to keep the
church property in first-class condition.

- Diversity, Inclusiveness and Reconciling Ministries
Committee -- The committee supports, organizes and takes part in
activities that promote reconciliation, inclusiveness and healing among the
diverse groups that make up our congregation and our community. For
example, the committee hosted a picnic on our church lawn that brought
together our congregation and members of Omaha's Jewish and Muslim
communities.

- Families & Children's Education Council -- The
council oversees Sunday school classes for children, summer Bible school and
special programs for children and families such as the annual Mardi Gras
celebration.

- Finance Committee -- This committee recruits the
leaders of FUMC-Omaha's annual stewardship campaign and oversees the drive.
It prepares the annual operating budget using information from church groups
and staff members. The committee monitors income and spending to see
that they are staying on track. It coordinates and approves all
fundraising activities by church groups.

- Foundation Board of Directors
-- This board manages
FUMC-Omaha's $1 million plus endowment. With the help of an investment
adviser, the board safeguards and invests endowment funds. It makes
information available to encourage people to make gifts to the church in their
wills.

- Health, Spiritual Formation & Caring Ministries
Committee -- The committee organizes many activities that promote
physical, emotional and spiritual health such as health screenings and
spiritual formation retreats. It also oversees continuing programs such
as funeral luncheons, the prayer chain and van transportation.

- Membership Development Committee -- The committee
looks for ways to attract new members and to make FUMC-Omaha more welcoming to
visitors. It has responsibility for the Inquirers' classes held four
times a year for people who are considering joining the church.
Committee members serve a breakfast at the first meeting of each Inquirers'
session. The committee also nurtures existing FUMC-Omaha members.

- Outreach Committee -- The committee has
responsibility for FUMC-Omaha's outreach efforts such as taking part in
Habitat for Humanity, Bread for the World and the Pearl Food Pantry. It
assists the Volunteers in Mission group.

Committee

- Staff-Parish Relations Committee -- The committee
represents the congregation in dealings with the clergy and other church staff
members. It is the committee's duty to confer with and counsel
pastors and staff on matters pertaining to the effectiveness of ministry;
relationships with the congregation; conditions that may impede the
effectiveness of ministry; and to interpret the nature and function of the
ministry. It sets personnel policies, recommends salary levels and
fringe benefits for staff members and consults with the Omaha District
Superintendent during the ministerial appointment process.

- Worship Commission -- Working with the pastors, the
Worship Commission has responsibility for planning the church's worship
services. Small worship teams plan and carry out specific worship activities
during each season of the church year. These teams meet as often as
necessary.

- I.C.E. Makers
stands for "Intentional
Christian Environment" Makers and serves as our youth council. This
group discusses the various aspects of the youth program, including but not
limited to weekly activities, studies, fundraising, mission trips, etc.
Through collective discussion, debate, prayer, and meditation this group
advises and counsels the Director of Youth Ministries in the direction of the
youth program. All participants in youth activities have a voice in these
meetings, along with parents or other interested adults. Voting members
will be chosen yearly through nomination and election. The purpose of
this group is to integrate youth into the active life and ministry of First
United Methodist Church-Omaha, participating with equal voice and influence in
sustaining and supporting the church's vision and mission.
